Working directly for the NHS as the main contractor, the 5-acre site had to be cleared in preparation for both a housing development and a new health centre.

The old Victorian building yielded quantities of slate, timber, brick, flooring and plastic windows for salvage and an impressive 98% was recycled. The small percentage of remaining material was processed into 6F2 material for site levelling and the entire site was graded.

Much of the reclaimed brick types were ‘stock’ and ‘wire-cut’, for which there is a good market. On site the bricks are cleaned and palletised and often sold directly.

One complication, which is common for older buildings, was the large quantity of asbestos that had to be removed. Our qualified staff seal off the areas and wearing appropriate hazmat clothing, remove and bag the asbestos waste for controlled disposal.

The project ran for 5 months which was longer than originally planned partly to poor weather but mainly due to COVID-19 restrictions.
